Water Management

When we decided on our topic, I chose water management. Because my major is business management and I thought it could be more interesting than other topics. A couple of articles were about water shortage, drought, and sharing water rights. According to Horse-trading for more water, California, Nevada, and Arizona are rivals for the utilization of the only river in the region of Colorado (2004, paragraph 4). Arizona will get $330 million for next 14 years for carrying water to Nevada (2004, paragraph 2). This agreement was made as a result of the West’s persistent drought. So, reduced water usage is needed, and each state near to Colorado River must share the limited water. Also, Jodi Torpey said rainwater falling on your property doesn’t belong to you. (2005, paragraph 2) Water is limited and the population is getting bigger day by day. Therefore, water management is needed to save water and share water for everyone. I plan on writing that three things should be used in water management. First, the government should raise cost for using water. Second, water must be shared among the countries or states. Finally, we should protect water before it would be polluted.

First, the most of people waste water because using water price is too cheap. Water is wasted only because of more abundant than others. Water is not unlimited as like other resources. Water usage is increasing according as population and as civilization progresses. If the cost of water would rise more than now, they who use water will be trying to reduce their spending.
Second, water must be shared. According to Horse-trading for more water, Arizona and Nevada will make a water bank for their growing population (2004, paragraph 3). Water is not only for one. Rainwater falling on my property is not mine (2005, Torpey, J. paragraph 8). If rainwater falling on your property is yours, it is not fair. Everyone has a right to use his/her rainwater. It is needed for anyone to share limited water for everyone.
Finally, once the environment is destroyed, it cannot be easily returned to the very same conditions as before. If federal authorities declare a “shortage condition” on Colorado River, Arizona, California, and Nevada will have a big problem (2004, paragraph 4). Nowadays, there are many odd happening such as tsunamis, and drought in the world. This is due, in part, by polluted weather.

We cannot live without water, but the situation of decreasing water has been worsening everyday. As I mentioned, to raise water price, to establish law, to share water and to protect water are needed to manage water. They are not enough to protect our ecosystem. We still need to find many solutions that could be useful water management.

Horse-trading for more water


A fairly large insurance policy for the water for the growing population of Clark County in which Las Vegas is located, is being made by Southern Nevada water officials. Arizona will get $330 million for next 14 years, and the Arizona Water Banking Authority will carry 1.25 million acre feet of Colorado River Water to Nevada (Horse-trading for more water, 2004 December 8, paragraph 2). This agreement will make a water bank in Arizona. The Southern Nevada Water Authority will take out water from Lake Mead in Arizona. This agreement was made as a result of the West’s enduring drought. Arizona and Nevada need to share the limited supplies of the Colorado River. For these reasons, water rights have been made very complicated. Arizona and Nevada should accept this agreement for both of their profits and to join against the river’s largest consumer California.

California, Nevada, and Arizona are rivals for the utilization of the only major in the region river Colorado. However, Colorado River is not for only one state. They must protect their common river for not only people who use it, but also any species that live in there.
Water is not unlimited and the population is getting bigger day by day. Therefore, reduced water usage is needed, and each state near to Colorado River must share the limited water. We cannot live without water, but the situation of decreasing water has been worsening everyday. This is due, in part, by unusual weather. Nowadays, there are many odd happenings such as tsunamis, and enduring drought in the world. I even heard that now there is also a drought in Carbondale. That is why water management is needed to use water effectively.
Once the environment is destroyed, it cannot be easily returned to very same conditions as before. Before requiring water rights through law, we have to do something which one is the most important responsibility for all.

My interview&reaction(position-Asian-American student)

My article is about race relations. I think there are many cases concerning race discrimination. I read the article which is about race relations require repairs. After 911, the United States is destroying the rights of many Arab-Americans. Oh, who is a Korean-American and race-relations adviser, said about need for Asian-Americans and blacks to come together in order to fight racial discrimination. She told of a case she is handing concerning a black man who was arrested for drunk-driving. The charge was for a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated), but real charge was DWB (Driving While Black).

I had an interview about race relations on campus with an Asian-American student. Her name is Wu, S. and she is Taiwan American. Before I met her I supposed to hear about discrimination from her, but she has never experienced about race discrimination. She thinks most people who are in SIU are very friendly. She has many friends who are different races from her. However, she doesn’t want to get married with some different races. I think race discrimination on SIU is not big deal, but it still exists in some area. I have also some experiences about this. Race discrimination is big problem. We should fight up against this. And also, we should change our fixed thoughts about other races before requiring the right equality. We are the same person.

Kansas voters overwhelmingly approve gay marriage ban

This article is about gay marriage. The ban reaffirms the state’s longstanding policy of recognizing only marriages between one man and one woman. In my opinion, before I came to the America, I thought same-sex marriages are crazy thinking. However, if they would be happier than before they get married, it may not be bad. Although they are homosexual, they can have their own right for happiness within the limits which are nobody would be harmed.

My Best School Memory

I was interested in rock bands when I attended University. Fortunately, there was a rock band there, so I joined it. The first time it was very difficult for me because I was not good at music. Especilly I was not able to produce correct beats even though I was a drummer. That was why I had to practice hard every day. When I made a mistake during the playing, my friends who played other instruments like guitar, bass, and keyboard blamed me, so sometimes I regreted that I joined this club. However, later I felt that I couldn't be happier than then, just after the performance in front of audiences. I had had performances many times before I went to the army. I suppose it was the best time in my school life.
